“Finger Pressure” in Japanese, Shiatsu is one of the most popular massage styles originating in Japan and founded on the Chinese Meridian System. Sometimes thought of as akin to acupuncture because of their similar foundation, Shiatsu involves no needles in technique but makes use of the thumbs, palms and fingers when applying pressure to identified areas in the body that are in need of attention.
Aside from the physical benefits believed to be acquired from Shiatsu such as improved blood flow and regulated nervous system activity, Shiatsu is also believed to restore balance of one’s chi and ease high levels of anxiety.
